This whole storyline is hilarious. I once worked for two years next cubicle to a guy named Rick. After we were laid off, I would occasionally drop in and visit another co-worker from our unit in her new front-desk job.
She told me Rick was gay on one of those visits. “Whaaaat?” I said. “You didn’t know?” she said. “He was flaming.” Um. No. He was not flaming at all. He was just Rick. And my reaction was pretty much “Huh. OK. I did not know that,” since I had no desire to date him.
It did offer a little more context to the time I offered him a ride home for Christmas to his dad because he was on my route, and he declined, saying something about how he and his dad didn’t get along.
I hope they’re getting along now, and I hope Rick is doing well.
